The Bike Doctor, Inc.

     We specialize in Harley Davidson, Metric Cruisers, Champion Trike, DFT Trike and Voyager Trike service and repair. We do North Carolina Safety Inspections on all Motorcycles.

    We carry a full line of  motorcycle parts, apparel, leather, rain suits, helmets and much more. We have the largest in stock inventory of after market parts from Drag Specialties, Custom Chrome and Kuryakyn for your Harley in the area. We are always expanding our inventory stop in and see what's new.

    We are located at 6977 Highway 70 in Newport in between the liquor store and the gun shop. We invite all of you to stop by and see our store and service facility.

      We do not have a big franchise name above our door we have quality service and our reputation to bring our customers back. We stand behind all our work.

Extended Warranty

    If you have an extended warranty you do not need to take your Harley to a dealership for warranty repairs we can now handle it here at The Bike Doctor.

                                                Service and Repairs

    We are currently booking appointments about a week out. Quality service and repair is still our priority not volume. We have a limited amount of openings and do our best trying to help everyone. If you are getting close to needing a service or tire change please call and schedule an appointment. Or just stop by and see us.

  

    We are proud to announce that we are now a certified S&S Sidewinder and VFI  Service Center. We have completed the week long course offered in La Crosse , Wisconsin at the S&S training and certification facility. We have knowledge of all S&S motors and products.

We now also tune HD race tuner, HD super tuner and TTS master tuner along with power commander.

     We are an Approved Dyno Jet Tuning Center. We offer Dyno runs and Dyno tuning on carbureted and fuel injected Harleys. We have the top of the line Dynojet 250i in our service area with an experienced MMI ,S&S and Dyno Jet  certified operator.

    We use the top of the line tuning link software to provide advanced tuning techniques. To optimize power we tune each cylinder separately with results showing tunes from front to rear cylinder are within 1 half horse power and 1 half pound of torque. This provides maximum power output, a crisp clean, smooth acceleration through out the power band and reduces or eliminates decel pop all together.  

 Tech Tip

              What is a stage one performance upgrade and what will it do for my bike?

     Due to EPA requirements on manufacturers the engine is extremely restricted. So the stage one improvement removes the restrictions.

    How, reminds me of one of my favorite watering holes in Myrtle Beach the Suck - Bang - Blow.

    1. Imagine your motor is breathing through a straw so first we remove the restrictive air cleaner and toss it. We install a free flow air filter like the Big Suck from Arlen Ness. This allows the motor to take in more air. (Suck)

    2. Now that your motor is breathing like a champ we have created very lean fuel state (not enough gas for all the air). We correct this on fuel injected models with a power commander. This will tell the ECM to inject more gas. On carbureted models we recalibrate the carb to give more gas. (Bang)

   3. We now have to give freedom to the back end to expel the burnt fuel mixture. (Exhaust) We do this by replacing the stock exhaust with less restrictive set which normally is accompanied by a better quality sound also. (Blow)
 

    Now that we have increased the Suck the Bang and the Blow, (Besides not sounding like a Volkswagen) we have increased throttle response and depending on the choices of air filters and exhaust on average we have also gained about 14% to 20% increase in horsepower and torque.
 

Here is an example of a completed stage one. This 2010 Dyna belongs to George Noll. We have installed a Power Commander 5, Super Gas Air Cleaner with a Rival face plate by Performance Machine and a set of Vance and Hines Big Radius exhaust.

Baker Plus 1 Oil Pan

As we know keeping an an air cooled motor cool  is important for the life of the engine. Baker has made that a little easier with the Baker plus one oil pan.

This oil pan is great especially addressing the heat generated by Harley's 96 ci motors. One customer reported a 15 to 20 degree reduction in oil temperature on his stock 2008 FLHTCU.

The Baker plus 1 cast models retails for $499. and takes about 3 hours to install. Following are pictures of a Baker+1 being installed on a 2006 Street Glide

As you can see with the side by side pictures the Baker+1 eliminates the plastic baffle system used in the stock Harley oil pan.

Internet Feature Bike

This months feature bike is a 2010 Street Glide belonging to SSGT Robert Wolak ,  Robert is in the US Army and is stationed in Hawaii, he is currently serving our country in Iraq. Roberts parents live here in the area so he purchased his bike here from a local dealer while on 2 weeks of R and R and in those 2 weeks he managed 1,264 miles. Robert has some ideas for his bike an we here at The Bike Doctor are honored to help Roberts dream come true. Robert is following along with this project from Iraq so in the next few months you can follow along with us as we transform this basically stock Street Glide into Roberts dream bike. Some of the changes scheduled are wheels , handle bars, stage 2 engine upgrade, bike black out , and more.

We managed to get Robert's bike on the lift for disassembly.

We found what appears to be leaking valve stems, notice the wet oil and major carbon build up on rear cylinder piston only 1200 miles. The front was leaking also but not as bad. Both plugs appeared to be fouled. This will be corrected when we send the heads to T-Man performance for the Stage II Pro Touring upgrade.

At the end of the day we had completed most of the disassembly.

The Process

DFT Trikes

DFT Trikes are available for all Harley Models

The D.F.T. independent suspension system starts with a differential mounted in a two-piece case. The case is 'O' ringed and sealed at the drive axles and mating surfaces. This serves as the adaptation device that maintains the motorcycle's original drive location and provides a mounting for the brake rotor. The drive spool is then mounted in a pair of main castings that are the foundation for mounting and placement to the motorcycle, lower suspension pivot points, upper shock mounts, brake caliper mount, drive spool and inner half shaft bearing bosses. 

All steel components, such as the lower arms and drive shafts, are T.I.G. welded and plated in zinc dichromate. The lower arms are fitted with tapered roller bearings at both the main casting and outer carrier pivot points for long life and smooth suspension movement. The half shafts use automotive type universal joints equipped with grease fittings.

The outer wheel carrier employs a sealed, double row ball bearing hub that mounts a 5 bolt x 100mm bolt circle, 16" front wheel drive rim available in numerous styles from many sources. The four shock's coil-over shock system provides tunable stance, balance and vertical position. To complete the system and enhance cornering and steering, a sway bar is provided. It is easily adjusted through a turnbuckle and locknut arrangement, and is mounted with spherical ends enabling a quiet, smooth, positive operation. 

The DFT trike kit is an easily installed, versatile and adjustable, bolt-on package. What this means to you is a good handling and extremely smooth and stable three-wheeled motorcycle. Let us build one for you and experience the difference an independent suspension can make.
